His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, Acting Prince of Riyadh Region, sponsored the launch of desalinated water supply project to Al-Kharj Governorate, serving 430,000 beneficiaries at a total cost of 539 million Saudi Riyals.

Upon his arrival at the ceremony, His Royal Highness was greeted by Engr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture “MEWA", Musaed bin Abdullah Al-Madi, Governor of Al-Kharj, and Nemer bin Mohammed Al-Shebel, Designated CEO of the National Water Company “NWC".

The ceremony began with a speech by the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in which he thanked HRH Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Riyadh Region, and HRH Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prince of Riyadh Region, for their keenness, interest and follow-up of water projects and environmental services in the region in general. The Minister expressed special appreciation to the Deputy Prince of Riyadh Region for his sponsorship of the occasion.

Minster Al-Fadhli pointed out that NWC would work on future projects to supply water to the governorates and centers of Riyadh Region, and maximize utilization, development and rationalization of all available resources, with the aim of sustaining them for future generations.

Al-Fadhli indicated that the project costs about 539 million Saudi Riyals, serves about 430,000 beneficiaries at al-Kharj Governorate, and extends 187 kilometers long, with a diameter of 1100 to 1200 mm, and a daily pumping capacity up to 120,000 cubic meters of desalinated water.

It is noteworthy that the project is one of a package of projects including production, storage and transmission for several areas where the state has invested large funds, and is brought through the system of transmitting desalinated water from Jubail and Ras Al-Khair stations for desalinating salt water from the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia.  The line lengths exceed 820 kilometers long to (uppermost point) east of Riyadh. From this point, NWC implemented and operated the desalinated water transmission line to Al-Kharj Governorate south of Riyadh. Then, remotely through screen, the acting Prince of Riyadh, launched the project to connect desalinated water to Al-Kharj. At the end of the ceremony, His Royal Highness Deputy Prince of Riyadh Region received a souvenir gift from the Minister.
