The National Water Company (NWC), represented by its Northwest Cluster, has announced that it has succeeded in planting more than one million trees in various parts of the Madinah Region. This is part of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), which aims to help develop vegetation cover, combat desertification, raise environmental awareness, and make better use of recycled water from wastewater treatment plants. Previously, the company had successfully planted one million trees in the Buraidah Oasis in the Qassim Region.
The National Water Company said, “In line with our plan to reforest and maximize the benefits from the triple-recycled water, the Northwest Cluster was able to plant more than 1.1 million different trees from the local environment in the Madinah Region. The trees species were neem trees, sidr, qarad, salam, and coastal khubeiz, as a contribution to the Saudi Green Initiative and maximizing the benefits from the recycled water”.
The company explained that the plantation work was carried out according to the plan. This included several locations in the Madinah Region by planting more than 679,000 trees in Madinah, while more than 181,000 trees were planted in Abiar Al-Mashi center, more than 98.000 trees were planted in Yanbu Governorate, more than 20,000 trees were planted in Khyber and AlUla governorates, about 140,000 trees were planted in Badr governorate, and about 33,000 trees were planted in Al-Mahd governorate and Al-Nabah center.
NWC mentioned that the trees would be planted around the wastewater treatment plants (STPs), where they will be irrigated with the recycled water produced by the wastewater treatment plants, which will contribute to the ecological balance in the Kingdom and have a positive impact on the quality of life.
The company confirmed that it would complete the planting of more trees in the appropriate agricultural seasons for the local environment. It is also supporting reforestation initiatives in the Kingdom's regions and enhancing integration with other companies as part of its plans to use recycled water in expanding cultivation and contributing to achieving the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.
