His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz—Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of King Khalid Foundation “KKF”; and Chairman of the Award Committee—presented the National Water Company “NWC” with the No. 1 Prize in environmental sustainability standards for 2025. Dr. Fuad bin Ahmed Alshikhmubarak, the company's CEO, received the award at the ceremony held yesterday, January 26, 2026, at the King Khalid Foundation headquarters in Riyadh.
Dr. Fuad bin Ahmed Alshikhmubarak, the CEO of the National Water Company, expressed his gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz for auspicating the ceremony. He also thanked the members of the award and judgement committees for nominating the National Water Company for the award.
This win is the result of the company's adoption of the best international environmental standards, which is reflected in its ongoing efforts to promote sustainability. The award criteria included important environmental aspects such as the climate standard, which includes a net zero emission strategy in line with the Kingdom's 2060 goals; the materials and waste standard, which includes sludge management targets; the reuse of gases generated from sludge to produce bioenergy at the Ajyal and Hit plants; the energy standard, which includes reduction targets, alternative energy generation, and targeted solar energy projects; and the water standard, which includes water loss management targets, setting explicit targets with a sustainable impact, reusing treated water for afforestation, and ensuring water and treated water checks through quality tests, and the nature standard which includes afforestation initiatives and targets, NWC oases, and the agreements with national entities and royal preserves.
