Highlighting the greatest and most important achievements of the late King, Al-Musallam said that “History will always remember King Abdulaziz for his historical accomplishments in the Two Holy Mosques and the holy sites, most recently his command to start the expansion of the northern area of the Grand Mosque at a cost that exceeds SR80 billion”.
This comes after laying the cornerstone for the largest expansion witnessed over the history of the Grand Mosque, to accommodate more than 1.6 million worshipers, as well as many expansions in the holy sites in Mina and Muzdalifah and Arafat to facilitate (Hajj) pilgrimage and expand the Jamarat Bridge and the Mataf at the Grand Mosque in Makkah to increase its capacity of 50 thousand to 130 thousand visitation per hour.
He added: “based on these principles, the late king ordered the implementation of King Abdullah Abdulaziz Zamzam watering project
in KDE Mecca, in order to provide zamzam water for pilgrims in an organized and accessible manner, which NWC has the honor of managing and running it by five thousands of cubic meters of Zamzam water per day and the production of two hundred thousand plastic bottles on a daily basis”.
Upon the wise guidance of the late king, the National Water Company was able to raise the level of services provided in the sectors of water and sanitation, abiding by the highest international standards of performance, and working on the establishment of infrastructure serving the requirements of population growth.
The company has succeeded in achieving record results during its relatively short lifetime, and occupied the second place as the best water company in the world in 2012 and received the award of the best project in the world in 2014.
NWC also implemented a variety of programs to introduce techniques and guidance and privatization to cope with the challenges faced in the cities supervised by the company in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca and Taif.
