The National Water Company "NWC" announced carrying on its strategic program to integrate 13 nationwide Saudi administrative regions under its umbrella into 6 clusters. This initiative is taken to achieve the objectives of the National Water Strategy and the Saudi Arabian's Vision 2030 in restructuring the water sector after NWC's successful integration of the Madinah Munawara and Tabuk regions under the name of Northwest Cluster last November as stage 1.
The company confirmed that according to integration schedule, Riyadh Region's governorates will integrate under the name of the Central Cluster and the Eastern Province directorates will integrate under the name of the Eastern Cluster on March 1, 2021, as stage 2 of the integration program. Completion of the integration stages for other regions (Western, Southern, and Northern clusters) will be gradual before the end of year 2021.
The departments' integration program adopted by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture "MEWA" aims to provide a modern ecosystem of administrative and technical enablers to upgrade operational efficiency and administrative, technical, and technological performance, by standardizing systems, policies, and procedures in order to create balance in the levels of provision of sustainable and quality service.
NWC stated that integrating departments' project is the step 1necessary to engage private sector, which will upgrade operational efficiency, redress technical gaps, and localize technical and technological expertise, through operation and maintenance "O&M" contracts with local and international consortia up to concluding concession agreements as in the objectives of National Water Strategy and Saudi Arabian Vision 2030.
