Jazan Prince Launches 20 Environmental, Water and Agricultural Services projects at SR +3.6B

Jazan, January 23, 2022 - HRH Prince Mohammed bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Jazan Region, in the presence of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prince of the Region patronized the launch ceremony of 20 new development projects for environmental, water and agricultural services in the Region, at a total cost of more than 3.6 billion Saudi Riyals. The ceremony, held today, at the Prince Sultan Cultural Center in Jazan, was attended by Engr. Abdulrahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture.  These development projects is serving more than 1.3 million beneficiaries in Jazan Region. His Highness praised the good leadership, May God bless them, for their interest in everything that would secure water and environmental services to citizens, and thanked the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and workers in the water, environment and agriculture sectors for their efforts to complete these projects on time, and for seeking beneficiaries satisfaction.

On his part, the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture confirmed that the water projects launched by His Highness the Prince of the Region included the completion of the Saudi Water Partnership Company "SWPC" of  the implementation and operation of  Al-Shuqaiq 3 plant of the Reverse Osmosis "RO" desalination plants on the Red Sea coast, with participation of the private sector, on an area of 160,000 square meters, with a production capacity of ,000 cubic meters per day, in response to the demand for desalinated water in the regions of Jazan and Assir, to serve for more than 1.2 million beneficiaries, at a cost of more than 2.1 billion Saudi Riyals.

 

The Minister said "The projects launched today included Saudi Water Conversion Corporation "SWCC"'s construction of two RO desalination plants, the first at Al-Shuqaiq Governorate with a production capacity of 42,500 cubic meters per day, and the other plant at Farasan Islands with a production capacity of 17,000 cubic meters per day, with the aim of meeting the growing demand for desalinated drinking water and localization of technology, at a cost of more than 378.9 million Saudi Riyals".

 

Al-Fadhli added, "To provide additional sources of desalinated water and keep pace with demand in Jazan and Assir regions, the private sector has been engaged in supply of 3 mobile plants (barge-mounted) to desalinate seawater and a production capacity of 150,000 cubic meters per day. The first barge was   operated at a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day and connect to Al-Shuqaiq system for the production and transportation of desalinated water".  

 

MEWA Minister pointed out that among the projects launched were system completion of the water production and transmission in the region. SWCC implemented a water transmission line from the Wadi Bish Dam to Al-Shuqaiq Governorate at a total transmission capacity of 175cubic meters per day, at Lengths exceeding 72 km, and a strategic tank in Al-Fetaiha Governorate at a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic meters for water produced to serve the city of Jazan and the governorates and villages of the region at a cost of more than 312 million Saudi Riyals. SWCC also implemented the project of transporting water to Jazan city and the governorates and cities of the region through implementing desalinated water transmission line with a design capacity of 270,000 cubic meters per day and lengths exceeding 54 kilometers Shuqaiq 3 water transport systems at a cost exceeding 315 million Saudi Riyals to boost regional water transport system.

 

In the field of water distribution, the Minister stressed that NWC implemented 7 projects at a total cost of more than 213 million Saudi Riyals. It included two projects for the supply and distribution of water in Al- Reith Governorate of and Aal-Haquo Center in the region, through the implementation of the transmission line of drinking water from the water purification plant on Wadi Bish Dam to Al- Reith Governorate of and Aal-Haquo Center, to lengths exceeding 51 km, , and  an operational tank with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters, with pumping capacity of more than 1200 cubic meters per day, at a cost of more than 81 million Saudi Riyals

 

Minister indicated that NWC implemented 7 projects at a cost of more than 213 million riyals, where it included two projects for the delivery and distribution of water in the province of Reith and the center of Al-Haquo in the region, through the implementation of the transmission line of drinking water from the water purification plant on Wadi Bish Dam to Reith Governorate and Al-Haqou Center, with lengths exceeding 51 km longitudinal, in addition to an operational tank with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters, with an infusion capacity of more than 1.2 thousand cubic meters per day, at a financial cost of more than 81 million Saudi Riyals.

 

He showed that NWC implemented two projects to complete the technical work of operating water pumping stations in the networks to serve Abu Arish city and more than 47 villages, at a cost of more than 41 million Saudi Riyals, in order to upgrade the efficiency of distribution system and operations in Abu Arish and Ahad Al-Masarha governorates, supply of drinking water to affiliated villages, in addition to implementing three water network and household connection projects in Sabea, Al-Harth, Damad, Bish and Al-Darb governorates, with lengths exceeding 330 km, and more than 8800 water household connections that will serve more than 109,000 beneficiaries, at a cost of more than 91 million Saudi Riyals, in order to expand coverage of water services in the region.

 

Al-Fadhli said that the environmental projects carried out by NWC are two major and subsidiary networks of sanitation services, with the aim of increasing coverage in Jazan city and Farasan Islands, at lengths of 175 kilometers, at a cost of more than 223 million Saudi Riyals to support environmental sustainability and to lift environmental damage from the region.

 

He added that the Ministry, represented by the Water Affairs Deputy Ministryship, drilled and operated 29 groundwater wells in Wadi Damad and Wadi Bish, with a production capacity of more than 67,000 cubic meters per day, a groundwater well, an operational tank and a tank-filling station for Badiyat Al-Watad's watering at a production capacity of 120 cubic meters per day, and a cost of more than 28 million Saudi Riyals, in addition to construction of a concrete dam in Sabea Governorate torrent stream in the Valley of Shahdan 376 meters long, at an altitude of 20 meters, and a design storage capacity of more than 2.65 1 million cubic meters, at a cost of more than 42 million Saudi Riyals, in an effort by the environment, water and agriculture system to increase water sources in the region.

 

The Minister stressed that these quality projects were carried out in accordance with best practices and technical expertise to reflect the functioning of the environment, water and agriculture system, in accordance with strategies planned to translate the Saudi Arabian Vision 2030, and reflect the keenness of the wise leadership, May God Help them, to provide all decent livelihoods means for its citizens and residents.

 

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saqr and Engineer Mansour bin Mohammed Abuthnain, NWC, VP for Projects and Technical Services.
