Reusing sewage water is considered very important in the field of water sector. Also is considered as a primary project developing in Saudi Arabia which will be a milestone in this field.
The NWC contracts value for selling treated water for the next twenty years with privet and government sector.  And over (500) thousand cubic meters per day compared to 2009, which amounted to (287) thousand cubic meters at a growth rate (82%) in the cities targeted for privatization in first phase, For a total amount of reused (31%) in the Saudi Arabia, and the company plans to raise this percentage by the end of this year with the signing of new contracts and agreements of a total amount up to (200) thousand m 3 / day, it Is also expected to increase these quantities steadily until the completion of projects of treated water existing as well as the implementation of transmission of necessary water, which is expected to reach quantities reused more than (4) million m 3 / day of produced water in Saudi Arabia during the last ten the coming years, and a growth rate of more than (25%) per tear.
This project is important because Saudi Arabia is considered one of the driest countries in the world, and to meet their growing demand for water, it first depends on the process of desalination of sea water, based on intensive use of energy, Secondly, the stored water is non-renewable, and therefore this will cost the Saudi economy, and as part of the mandate is essential for the National Water Company to provide water services and sanitation in the cities, within the program of privatization of the water and sanitation, So the National Water Company worked to on the composition of water treatment sector and to create a working environment suitable for this economic sector, and the company's business focused on a number of aspects including working on the study of what the market need for this type of water, as well as work on the preparation of a feasibility study for the project in six major cities in Saudi Arabia through one of the world consulting company in this area (Fichtner consulting Engineers), where the study included the major cities targeted for privatization in the first phase, (Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca , Medina , Dammam and Khobar).Where the study showed the possibility of re-use of water and are widely available once the necessary infrastructure for the delivery of water, in addition to the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding to provide a number of government and privet agencies for this quality of water.
The re-use of treated sewage water is the best option for use in the industrial, agricultural, and cooling systems used on a large scale so as to economic and environmental benefits, also a water treatment options are preferable to the industrialists, because of the possibility to provide  in large quantities to the beneficiaries, and good economic returns, which helps to create sustainable solutions by providing sources of additional water-friendly environment that help manage demand for water for non-human use, In light of the fact that the re-use of treated wastewater does not exceed (18%) only of the water produced in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
