Dr. Al-Musallam: More than (600) thousand m3/day will be managed by the Electronic SCADA System for the first time
NWC confirmed the readiness in the water and sewage sector in Makkah and the holy sites to serve the pilgrims during the current Hajj season, during the CEO Dr. Loay Al-Musallams’ tour, which included the control room (SCADA) in Makka and all water utilities, on Saturday 20/10/2012.
After the tour, CEO of NWC Dr. Loay Al-Musallam said: that the company planned for the pilgrimage season earlier to ensure providing the best services to the pilgrims to cope with the directions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Crown Prince, prince of Makka, and the Chairman of Hajj central Committee, which is followed up continuously with HE Eng. Abdullah Bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Hussayen, Minister of Water and electricity, Chairman of NWC, and members of the company's Board of Directors.
Al-Musallam pointed that the preparation plans initiated by the company since earlier was based on three main important themes to make sure of the readiness of all the preventive and operational points of all water and sewage sector, and to achieve the success of all operational plans in the pilgrimage season according to high standards, pointing out that the first major points, which the Company worked on is to determine the amount of water required for the pilgrimage season, as well as washing and cleaning networks and fill reservoirs, pointed out that the daily average amount of water that will be pumped to Makka and the holy sites during the pilgrimage season will reach to more than (600) thousand m3/day, where quantities of water through desalination plant (stage I and II) will be about (200) thousand m3/ day, station (3) with the amount of (360) thousand m3/day, water from desalination plants will become (560) thousand m3/day, in addition to other amounts estimated to (40) thousand m3/day of water reserves in Makkah. Malakan valley water project led and allocated to pumping water to toilets of the Holy Mosque, also the first stage includes fill all strategic and operational reservoirs in Makka (36) Thirty-six reservoirs in Makkah in addition to the presence of (27) twenty-seven reservoirs at the holy sites and with a capacity of absorptive (2.5) million and a half m3.
The second point in the preparation plan for the pilgrimage season is operating, maintenance and distribution of field teams in various sites in the holy sites (Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah) according to a schedule devoted to it, with an estimated total labor force in the holy sites of more than (3000) three thousand employees of national cadres of competencies distinguished between engineers and workers and observers, and oversees the work of pilgrimage field is more than (350) professional engineers and administrators and observers. Also the company has worked on preventive maintenance and fractures reform plans, and to develop plans for crisis management, where the water networks lengths to (425) thousand meters, in addition to sewage networks in Mina, which has a length to (84) thousand meters.
With third point concentrates on the actual operation of water and sewage, which began the sixth day of the month of ThoalHijjah in holy sites (Mina - Arafat - Muzdalifah), to follow the arrival of water to all points of consumption cycles and monitoring water pressure and levels in the networks of reservoirs and work (24) hours to receipt complaints and end as soon as possible and follow-up maintenance teams via their field first hand as well as follow-up cleaning and disinfection of water courses workshops disinfectant.
Also focusing on the operational plans for the pilgrimage season on the amount of water that will be pumped to the central area surrounding the Holy Mosque and inhabited by large numbers of pilgrims, in addition to some neighborhoods where there are pilgrims like Alazizia, Alshshah, AlJarwal, AlMisfalah to Alnakash that in the pilgrimage seasons consumes large quantities of water from (20 Dhulquada) until the end of the season.
In addition to the end of the company's project remote control and monitoring holy places (SCADA) and link operational room to Muzdalifah to monitor and control the level of water tanks and issue the necessary instructions for operation, in addition to the implementation of a pilot project for a number of cycles of water through tanks installed backup courses to compensate for courses with water in case of outages, until repair and will run (50) reservoir for this year and test them out, as the company will secure (1000) water tanker for backup will distribute to different regions holy places and mounted faucets for use by pilgrims.
